Petit Qoobo is a therapeutic cushion robot with a tail that moves in response to touch. Depending on how it is stroked, the tail makes various movements. It also responds to the surrounding natural soundscape - be it loud noises or the sound of one's voice. In addition, when Petit Qoobo is cuddled, the user will feel a subtle "heartbeat," making the robot more realistic and animal-like.
In designing Petit Qoobo, all of an animal's physical elements but the tail were removed to leave room for users to freely imagine its appearance and personality. The user is able to focus on the tail as a communication medium, allowing for comforting, non-verbal communication between the user and the robot, comparable to the relationship between pets and their owners.
